Anna Leigh Ashford

Annaleigh Amanda Ashford has been an American actor, dancer and vocalist since the mid 1990s. Early Broadway performances included Wicked Legally Blonde & Hair. For her role as Essie in You Can't Take It With You she won the Tony Award. Annaleigh is a Tony Award winning actress and director has spent most of her career working with famous directors and actors both in film and on television. Ashford's upcoming project is an exclusive Hulu series titled Welcome to Chippendales, created by Robert Siegel. The show will premiere on the 22nd of November and Ashford is starring alongside Kumail Najiani. Ashford is currently in production on Searchlight Pictures' horror thriller Dust which stars Sarah Paulson and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. The movie will air on Disney DTC as a Hulu Original. Ashford's Broadway comeback will be on March 20, 2023. He is paired with Josh Groban for the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre revival of Stephensondheim's Sweeney Todd. The production is led by Thomas Kail and produced by Jeffrey Seller, the team that brought you Hamilton. Ashford most recently starred Paula Jones in the new Ryan Murphy FX series American Crime Story Impeachment which is based on the national crisis that swept into Paula Jones Monica Lewinsky and Linda Tripp as principal characters for the first impeachment hearings in over a century. Ashford appeared for two seasons on the CBS popular comedy B Positive. Created by Marco Pennette and Chuck Lorre the show also starred famous actors Linda Lavin Hector Elizondo and Ben Vereen.No stranger to Broadway Ashford was awarded the Tony Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for her portrayal of Essie as Essie in You Can't Take It with You. Other Broadway performances for Ashford are Sunday in the Park, in which she starred with George Wicked legally Blonde, as well as the role of Lauren as Lauren in Kinky Boots. For this performance she received a Tony Award nomination. Her birthplace and childhood was in Denver Ashford currently splits her days between Los Angeles and New York.
